Fall Checklist for Home Owners

    Fall leaves in New Orleans

Happy first day of Fall, New Orleans!

While we don’t have the changing of the seasons that are seen in other parts of the country, we certainly can look forward to cooler weather soon. Our autumns are glorious and if you’re not out at all of local fall fairs and festivals, it’s a great time to do some of the things on your home maintenance list.

    Touch up paint

Painting in the dead of the summer is nothing but miserable. Fall is the perfect time to take a walk around your house and touch up any spots that need the attention of your paint brush.

    Caulking and Sealing

Old New Orleans homes can be drafty, so caulking/sealing doors and windows before the cold weather arrives can not just keep you more comfortable, but reduce your heating costs as well.

    Update the landscaping

Yank out those tired plants that are barely hanging on after our hot, hot summer and add a little bit of fall color to your garden beds.

    Deck and patio cleanup

Pressure wash, replace rotted deck boards, paint/stain, re-grout brick patios, re-level paved patios – whatever you have to do to get it ready for the first night you can strike up the fire pit.

Have the HVAC cleaned and serviced

This needs to be done before you need to use the heater. Cracked heat exchangers can emit carbon monoxide and be dangerous. Make sure yours is in working order.
