Gentilly Real Estate An affordable New Orleans neighborhood

Gentilly covers a pretty big section of New Orleans, loosely bounded on the south by I-610 and I-10, on the west by City Park, on the east by the Industrial Canal. The northern boundaries are either Leon C. Simon Drive or Lake Pontchartrain, depending on who you ask (just like most New Orleans neighborhoods).

Home to Dillard University, Southern University of New Orleans, UNO, Brother Martin High School, Holy Cross School and Ben Franklin High School, Gentilly’s location makes it easy to get to any of these schools quickly.

Subdivisions in Gentilly include Milneburg, Gentilly Terrace (named for the terraced lots that the homes sit on), Pontchartrain Park, Filmore, Mirabeau and Gentilly Woods.

Gentilly remains one of the most affordable places to buy a home in New Orleans proper with easy access to downtown, City Park and the lakefront. The crepe myrtle lined streets are filled with examples of Arts and Crafts inspired architecture, sprinkled with a few ranch homes and raised basements.

Since 2005, some homes have been raised, most homes have been renovated and interest in the area, particularly in homes close to Holy Cross, has increased.
