Little Free Libraries New Orleans LA
If there’s one thing I love to do, it’s read. As a child, the school library and the public library were my refuge, filled with choices that could take me away to new worlds, drop me into a historic setting, or inspire me with an amazing life story. I was lucky that my schools had plenty of choices and that I was a short bicycle ride away from my local library branch.
Back then, Little Free Libraries weren’t a thing. If they had existed, I would have been swapping books on the daily, eager to dive into a new story.
What’s a Little Free Library?
A “take a book, return a book” free exchange box, scattered in neighborhoods all around New Orleans. For kids (and adults) that can’t easily get to the public library, they are a welcome addition on those days when you just want to curl up and escape into another time, another dimension, another life. Making it easy to be a reader, they are a boon to our community.
Started by a non-profit organization, millions of books are exchanged each year around the world with 24/7 access in areas where books might be scarce.
The next time you see one, snap a pic and tag us – there are plenty that may not be “official” but serve our NOLA neighborhoods.
Happy reading!
