City Park is an oasis in New Orleans that we can all be proud of, with so many activities throughout the year. The New Orleans Museum of Art. The sculpture garden. Storyland for the kids. City Putt for mini-golf. The botanical gardens that shine at their brightest during the annual Celebration in the Oaks holiday light display. The moss dripping old live oaks that line the boulevards and byways and provide summer shade for a picnic. The lagoons, where you can take a gondola ride or rent a kayak or pedal boat.
All in all, it’s a showcase. But where I think it really shines is in the annual tulip display on the edge of the Big Lake, near the museum. In the midst of everyone walking, biking and relaxing on the lawn, there is an annual tulip planting that is spectacular.
Over 12,000 bulbs were planted along the shores of the Big Lake and they are popping up to put on an awesome spring display. Get there soon though, they don’t last long and you don’t want to miss the show.
