Gentilly is one of the come back kids in New Orleans real estate and the move of Holy Cross School from the Bywater to Gentilly has helped drive interest and prices up in the neighborhood.
For a while, there were loads of fixer uppers available, but most of them have been snatched up by savvy investors who are renovating or even building new construction in several subdivisions.
Prices keep going up
Watching the prices in this part of Gentilly gives credence to the old “you snooze, you lose” saying.
What neighborhoods are nearby?
Centrally located just west of City Park, Gentilly has historically been a very diverse community, both in property values and demographics. Situated near Holy Cross School, Benjamin Franklin High School and the University of New Orleans, it’s easy to get just about anywhere in the city via I-610. Renovations and remodeling are skyrocketing and we’re picking this as one of the potential stars of New Orleans real estate in 2015.
The city has been slow to fix roads, so don’t be surprised if your street is home to some pretty impressive potholes. Also, some Katrina damaged homes still remain, along with vacant lots that have not been rebuilt on. If borrowing a cup of sugar from your neighbor is important, be sure the block you choose is one that has been restored.
