Each year, the National Association of REALTORS conducts an in-depth survey of home buyers and sellers in an attempt to understand what makes people choose the homes and neighborhoods they end up living in.
Some of the home buyer responses stand out across every category – from first time home buyers to those purchasing a second or vacation home, the quality of the neighborhood is a deciding factor for 69% of home buyers, followed by how convenient the location is to their job and the overall affordability of homes in the community.
At the bottom of the list when choosing a neighborhood is convenience to the airport and public transportation, even for buyers in urban areas.

Here’s an easy to follow infographic based on buyer responses in the 2014 report. From neighborhood qualities to the particulars of a property, buyers have a variety of influences when choosing a place to call home.
