If there’s one thing that will quickly derail your home purchase, it’s a lender that doesn’t know how things work in New Orleans.
Since Louisiana follows the Napoleonic code (civil law) rather than the common laws of other states, some of our customs and traditions can be foreign to out of state lenders.
But it’s not just the subtle differences in laws that can make your mortgage process more fretful.
When dealing with a lender that’s out of state, or even just out of town, you can’t get face to face with them during the approval process or if there’s a bump in the road. Instead, you are often relegated to a voice on the phone or a number on a file, rather than a real customer.
Also, an out of town lender will not have access to local home buyer assistance programs you might qualify for, leading to a higher cost of your mortgage (and who wants that?).
Need a list of local lenders that we’ve worked with successfully in the past? Just ask and we’ll be happy to give you a referral to someone who specializes in your particular mortgage needs.
